COLLIERVILLE, Tn -- Behind an outstanding 18-point, 20-rebound, and 7-assist performance from sophomore Chris Coleman—including clutch free throws down the stretch—Collierville Men’s Basketball secured a thrilling 54-50 overtime victory over Cordova on Friday at MyTownMovers Fieldhouse. Prior to the game, the team recognized four special senior basketball players for their success as Dragons: Webb Thomas, Aden Harris, Luke Roeder, and Gary Wolfe.
The win marked a significant turnaround for the Dragons, who snapped a six-game losing streak. It also provided a measure of redemption, as the team had been outmatched in two previous 20-point losses to Cordova last year, as well as a devastating 36-point loss to them earlier this season.
Collierville came out strong, dominating the first quarter with their most impressive start of the season. They built a commanding 17-5 lead by the end of the period. Cordova fought back, trimming the lead to 27-26 by halftime. The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the Dragons holding a narrow 38-36 advantage heading into the final period.
The game was tied at 48-48 at the end of regulation, but Collierville outlasted the Wolves in overtime, finishing strong for a 54-50 win.
In addition to Coleman’s stellar performance, junior point guard David Jones contributed 14 points, while senior shooting guard Luke Roeder added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists to the effort.
The victory improves Collierville's record to 9-13 on the season, and the Dragons will look to build on this momentum as they head to Southwind next Tuesday for their next matchup.
