COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Collierville High School girls' soccer team continued their remarkable season Thursday night, cruising to a 7-1 Senior Night victory at the CHS Soccer Stadium at Landers SportsPlex and improving their record to 14-1 overall.
The Dragons wasted little time taking control of the match. Just two minutes into the contest, Piper Williams found the back of the net to give Collierville an early 1-0 advantage. Moments later, Caroline Sheals doubled the lead with a goal of her own, putting the home team in the driver's seat.
Williams struck again midway through the first half, finishing an assist from Caroline Anglin to make it 3-0. Anglin continued to orchestrate the offense shortly thereafter, delivering another perfectly placed cross that Sophie Cogan converted with a header for the Dragons' fourth goal.
Before halftime, Cruiz Christie added a score, capping a dominant opening half and sending Collierville into the break with a commanding 5-0 lead.
The offensive pressure continued in the second half as Williams recorded her second assist of the evening, setting up Stella Toombs for the Dragons' sixth goal.
Bartlett did not register its first shot on goal until the 60th minute and missed the attempt. The visitors converted their next opportunity to get on the board, trimming the deficit to 6-1. However, Collierville quickly responded when Aviana Pompa found the net to restore a six-goal advantage at 7-1.
After Pompa's goal, the Dragons shifted their focus to possession, ball control, and defensive organization, closing out the match without any issues.
The victory further strengthened Collierville's standing among the nation's elite programs. Head Coach Gareth Munro's squad moved up their RPI ranking and are currently ranked No. 1 in Tennessee and No. 3 nationally according to MaxPreps.
The win sets the stage for one of the most anticipated matches of the season as Collierville hosts fellow national powerhouse Houston High School of Germantown in the District Championship match. Houston is also ranked among the nation's top five teams, creating a high-profile showdown between two of Tennessee's premier programs.
The District Championship is scheduled for Wednesday, 7:00pm, at the CHS Soccer Stadium at Landers SportsPlex. Get your popcorn ready.
