Germantown, TN -- Collierville wrestling's impressive start to the season has carried over into the new year. After finishing with a 17-2 record before the holiday break, the Dragons have added to their win total, securing a dominant 65-18 victory at Cordova on Tuesday before clinching the district championship with a 48-19 triumph over Houston on Thursday evening—just before a winter storm hit.
Though the storm raged outside, the action inside Houston High School’s gym was anything but calm. The Dragons stormed out of the gate, winning the first five matches of the dual. Highlighting the early success was a technical fall by Drew Corbin at 132 pounds. Other wins in the opening stretch came from Devin Corbin (126, 7-1), Charles Baldwin (138, 10-9), Peter Pugh (144, 4-3), and Weston Neutz (150, 9-2), giving Collierville a commanding 18-0 lead.
Houston then showed life with back-to-back wins at 157 and 165 pounds, but the Dragons quickly regained control. Collierville's wrestlers dominated the next five matches, extending their lead to an insurmountable margin. Michael Thompson (175), Bond Christie (190), Mason Maxim (215), Jonah Holcomb (285), and Sricharan Kosanam (106) all recorded technical falls, adding six points apiece to the team score. Due to illness, the Dragons did not to compete at 113 and 120 pounds, effectively sealing the win at 48-19.
With the district championship secured, Collierville now turns its attention to a chance at reaching the 20-win milestone when the team is scheduled to compete at Germantown High School on Tuesday.
