Through thirty-one games, No. 3 Collierville baseball had scored a run in each of the games played. On Monday night, the Dragons couldn't manufacture one run.
The Dragons (26-5) lost just their fifth game of the season by falling to Bartlett, 1-0, at Patriot Bank Park. Collierville suffered the defeat and wasted another stellar pitching performance from Thomas Crabtree because the often-dominant offense did not have an answer for Bartlett's ace Reese Ellison.
Ellison went the distance and allowed just three hits. The big left-hander struck out five and walked four.
Crabtree was actually more impressive. The East Tennessee State signee went 6.2 innings and was removed at the 100 pitch mark. Bartlett managed 4 hits, Crabtree's one run given up was unearned; and the fireballer struck out fourteen while walking just one. Keaton Baird recorded the final out in the top of the 7th with a punch out.
The three hits for the Dragons came off the bat of Crabtree, Joey Caruso, and Tanner Wages.
The rubber match is set for Tuesday night at Bartlett's Elrod Field at Freeman Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm. The game has big implications for post-season seeding.
