Jack Dougherty, a 2020 Collierville High School graduate, was near perfection Saturday night in Omaha as he delivered for Ole Miss in a crucial College World Series start that puts the Rebels one win away from a national championship. The 6'4 right hander drew comparison to Max Scherzer while throwing a perfect game through five innings. He was dominant with a fastball-slider combination that had the Oklahoma Sooners hitters uncomfortable in the box.
The former Dragon ace tied a career-high with the five innings pitched before unraveling in the sixth inning as he surrendered three straight hits and a walk before head coach Mike Bianco went to the bullpen.
Dougherty would earn the win for Ole Miss in the 10-3 triumph over the Sooners. He struck out six in the five innings and threw a total of 72 pitches.
Ole Miss will look to claim the national championship on Sunday when the Rebels and Oklahoma meet again for game 2 of the College World Series finals.
