Collierville, TN -- The Collierville Dragons turned in a dominant performance on Friday night, cruising to a 38-3 victory over Rossview in the first round of the TSSAA 6A State Playoffs. With the win, the Dragons return to the Sweet 16 under the leadership of Head Coach Joe Rocconi, and will now prepare for a highly anticipated second-round matchup against rival Germantown next week.
The star of the show was running back Jonathan Hampton, who put the game out of reach early with a monster performance in the first half. Hampton carried the ball 27 times for 181 yards and scored all four of Collierville’s touchdowns before halftime, giving the Dragons a commanding 28-3 lead at the break. Rossview’s only points came on a 31-yard field goal late in the second quarter.
Up front, Collierville’s offensive line delivered an A+ performance, paving the way for Hampton’s big night and providing plenty of time for quarterback Grant Troutman to operate. The offensive dominance was matched by a suffocating defensive effort.
Luke Roeder delivered the knockout blow in the third quarter, returning an interception for a touchdown to make it 35-3. Kicker Grayson Lytton added a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring and finish a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points for the game.
Defensively, AJ Greene led the charge with 8 tackles, 6 of them solo. His effort helped keep Rossview’s offense in check throughout the night, limiting their opportunities and preventing any serious threats after the early field goal.
Now, Collierville (10-1) turns its focus to a familiar foe, the Germantown Red Devils, who upset Clarksville 28-10 to set up next week’s rematch. The Dragons and Red Devils previously met on September 27, with Collierville holding on for a 15-12 win at Red Devil Field. The two teams will square off again next Friday at Dragon Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
