Collierville, Tenn. – Collierville High School Principal Roger Jones announced on Friday the appointment of head coaches for three sports that will be officially recognized for the first time this school year by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. Mr. Kirk Barkley will lead the boys’ lacrosse program, while Mr. Chris McGreger will do the same for girls’ lacrosse. Dr. Dan Holcomb, meanwhile, will serve as the first head coach of the Lady Dragons’ flag football squad.
Barkley has been part of the boys’ lacrosse coaching staff for the past three years and previously worked at Arlington High School from 2015 to 2018. Last spring, he served as interim head coach for the Dragons, leading them to the 2024 Division I-AA West Regional Lacrosse Championships. As an amateur, Barkley was a standout player in the Memphis-area club circuit, earning MVP awards in both his junior and senior years of high school. He continued playing lacrosse at Greensboro College in North Carolina and later at the University of Tennessee, where he was named all-conference and helped lead the Vols to a club championship. “We are excited for Coach Kirk Barkley to stay in the Collierville family as our newly appointed head coach of Collierville High School boys’ lacrosse,” said Jones. “Coach Barkley’s passion is exactly what we need to elevate our program to new heights.”
McGreger stepped in as head coach midway through last season, ultimately leading the CHS girls’ lacrosse team to an 8-3 record and advancing to a final four finish in the state playoffs. “We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Chris McGreger as the new head coach of our girls’ lacrosse team,” said Jones. “Coach McGreger brings a wealth of experience from the feeder programs and a proven track record of success in player development. His commitment to excellence on and off the field makes him the perfect fit for our team.”
Holcomb, a 1996 graduate of Collierville High, participated in football, wrestling, and track and field during his time at the school. He continued his football career first as a player at Lambuth University, then as a coach at both Memphis Catholic and Bolton High Schools. Holcomb subsequently served as defensive coordinator at Germantown High School until 2010, when he assumed his current role as an assistant principal at CHS. He will now balance his administrative duties with a return to coaching, aiming to establish the premiere girls’ flag football team in the state. “It is with great excitement that I appoint Dr. Dan Holcomb as the head coach of Collierville High School’s inaugural girls’ flag football team,” said Principal Roger Jones. “He brings a unique blend of leadership and dedication to this new role.”
The first official practice date for these three newly sanctioned sports will be February 3, 2025. The state tournaments for boys’ and girls’ lacrosse will occur May 14-17, 2025. As an emerging sport, there will be no state tournament this school year for girls’ flag football. A TSSAA invitational tournament, however, will be held in the spring.
