Collierville High School had more teams than any school in the state competing on the opening day of the 2023 TSSAA State Championships on Tuesday (May 23). The annual "Spring Fling" held in Murfreesboro is the prestigious end-of-year event featuring the state championships in all spring sports with the qualifiers from across the state of Tennessee. The Dragons were represented Tuesday on the soccer pitch, tennis courts, and baseball diamond.

The first to go to battle would be the CHS Dragon Men's Soccer team. Collierville controlled the majority of the early minutes, but a pair of goals midway through the first half on limited opportunities by Hardin Valley put the Dragons deficit, 2-0, at the half. With 28:00 minutes left in the contest, the Dragons got on the board with a Luke Johnson goal. Just two minutes later, Collierville got the equalizer from Johnson. Unfortunately Hardin Valley would score with 5 minutes remaining in the game and Collierville would fall, 3-2, to end their season with an overall record at 15-4-2 and the elite eight finish.

Your defending state champions, Collierville High School men's tennis, got off to a fast start with early court sweeps by #2 Ajay Arul and #4 Tristian Kelly. The team's #1 Ranjay Arul and #5 Ansh Sampat would persevere to close out the 4-1 win in singles play for the Dragons. Collierville will advance for the opportunity to defend last year's state championship at 1:30pm, Wednesday, against Johnson City's Science Hill.

Finally, tip your hat to Collierville senior Thomas Crabtree. The East Tennessee State signee has been magnificent all year for the baseball Dragons and it was no different Tuesday night at Oakland High School in the team's tournament opener against Hardin Valley. The 6'3 right-hander dealt a complete game shutout, giving up just three hits and walks, while striking out eleven. A.J. Greene blasted a two-out solo home run that proved to be the game winning RBI in the top half of the first inning. Crabtree provided insurance for himself with a base knock to score Austin Smith in the 7th inning. Collierville advances in the winner's bracket to Wednesday's play after the 2-0. They will face Centennial with a first pitch slated for 12:30pm at Oakland High School. The Diamond Dragons set a school record of 40 wins with their win over Hardin Valley.
