The Lady Dragons capped off a remarkable season by finishing 6th at the State cross-country championship meet in Hendersonville on Thursday, Nov. 4. Led by freshmen Scarlett Nash with a time of 19:36, the girls put together one of their best performances of the year on the challenging course at Sanders Ferry park. With a superb pack time of 55 seconds, the Lady Dragons finished as the top team in west Tennessee. It was the highest finish for the Dragons since 2008, and their 20:06 5k average was the fastest for any previous CHS girls’ team at State. In her last race, three year captain and Arkansas State commit Emma Hurlbut crossed the line moments after Nash to secure the best team placement of her high school career. Hurlbut was on three previous State teams that placed 16th, 18th, and 14th respectively. Nash and Hulrbut were joined by freshmen Ava Lang (20:11) and sophomores Sydney Collins (20:25), Maya McCloskey (20:31), Bella Carothers (20:40), and Allie Timms (20:50).
