The Collierville Dragons cross-country teams were back in action Saturday night at the Frank Horton Invitational at Shelby Farms, hosted by Christian Brothers High School.

In the girls varsity race, junior Emma Hurlbut led the team with a strong effort, covering the 5k course in 21:25. She continues to be extremely consistent and demonstrate remarkable toughness in every race. Emma and fellow Junior Caroline Moerbe were accompanied by three freshmen to round out the top 5 scorers. Maya McCloskey, Bella Carothers, and Allie Timms put up solid performances as they helped the team achieve a pack time of only 36 seconds. Timms and McCloskey are accomplished middle school runners who have been a great addition to the high school team. Carothers has run varsity times in each of the first three meets in her first year of XC competition. The Dragons were without #2 runner, freshmen Sydney Collins but still managed to finish 6th out of 10 teams. The Junior Varsity team ran well and were led by junior Sofia Bologna in a rehab stint. The JV girls finished 3rd behind Houston and Brentwood.

On the boys side, the Dragon harriers raced to a 7th place finish out of 13 teams and continue to improve every week. Senior Tal Old held a torrid pace through the mile, coming through in 4:54 and held on to finish 20th overall. Ben Linder, in just his 3rd cross country race, ran an impressive 16:50. Senior Andreis Campo raced to a personal record of 17:13, placing in the Top 40. Rounding out the top 5 were sophomore Reese Webber and senior Matt Haws. The JV boys, led by sophomore Nathan Hunter in 18:38, ran a smart race with a solid pack through the first mile. CHS finished 2nd to Brentwood (42-39), their first loss of the season but maintain a record of 19-1 on the year.

Both boys and girls teams are back in action this Saturday at the Crossing Paths Invite in Oakland.
