Second year Collierville head football coach Joe Rocconi continued to build on a solid coaching staff with the addition of four new members for the 2020 season.

The school announced the hiring of Daniel Montiel, Spencer Scofield, Brett Thompson, and Joe White.

Montiel, a former University of Memphis tight end, returns to the Collierville sideline after spending last fall coaching at Christian Brothers High School. He served on Mike O’Neill’s staff in 2018. The Texas native excelled at Arlington (TX) High School and earned a scholarship to the University of Memphis. He finished his career as the primary starter at tight end for the Tigers. Montiel hauled in 27 catches for 338 yards and three touchdowns as a senior. He lettered all four years at Memphis, was an All-Conference selection, and academic All-American.

Scofield graduated from St. George’s Independent School in Collierville where he played football and lacrosse for the Gryphons. He continued his education and football career at Birmingham Southern University. The offensive lineman started over 30 games in his career and was named to the first team of the Southern Athletic Conference as a senior.

Thompson, most recently of the Memphis Express, is also a former collegiate standout at tight end. He spent three seasons at Tennessee-Martin after one season each at Northwest Mississippi Community College and East Mississippi Community College where he was a quarterback. Thompson’s tenure at UT-Martin included appearances in 19 games during the 2015 and 2017 season. He missed the 2016 campaign due to injury. He tallied 25 career receptions for 198 yards and one touchdown.

White is a Collierville alumni, the brother of Dragons assistant John White, and son of former Rhodes College Head Football Coach Joe White Sr. He returns to the gridiron for the Dragons as a coach after spending the previous five years coaching at White Station High School. He played collegiately at Lagrange College in Georgia as an offensive and defensive lineman.

The four new coaches join Blake Bennett, Mike Bradley, Mitch Davis, Patrick Elam, Leon Floyd, Logan Johns, Austin King, Nick Marchy, Tommy Miller and John White on Rocconi’s staff.
