Nashville, TN -- Day 2 of the BCAT Hoopfest proved even more impressive for the Collierville High School men’s basketball team, as the Dragons showcased their talent against strong competition while playing in front of a large contingent of college coaches.

Leading the program is new head coach Erik Buggs, no stranger to the spotlight. A former All-State standout and McDonald’s All-American nominee, Buggs brings an impressive résumé that includes time as the interim head coach at Tennessee State University and as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Now at the helm in Collierville, Buggs is developing an intriguing group of prospects in the Memphis suburb — and they delivered in a big way on Saturday.

Collierville opened the day with a 9 a.m. matchup against a Maryville team that posted a 29–5 record during the 2025–26 season. The Dragons came out firing, jumping to a 9–0 lead and holding a 12–3 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Their energy in the wake-up call game caught attention, as they consistently won 50/50 balls and controlled the tempo, building a 21–10 lead at the break. Collierville maintained its composure down the stretch to secure a 47–39 victory over the Rebels.

The Dragons closed out the event at Christ Presbyterian Academy against Stewarts Creek. After a competitive start, Collierville’s athleticism was the separation as the game progressed. Strong defensive possessions and efficient scoring fueled a dominant performance, with the Dragons pulling away for a decisive 60–34 win.

With the two victories on Saturday, Collierville finished the BCAT Hoopfest with a 3–1 record over two-days, continuing to build momentum heading into the remainder of the summer.

The Dragons now sit at 6–3 overall in summer competition and will wrap up their summer schedule this Friday when they compete in the Jerry Peters Classic at Memphis University School.
