The Collierville High School women’s soccer team captured the Regional Championship on Wednesday night, defeating Houston 1–0 in a tightly contested match.
Sophomore midfielder Sophie Cogan provided the difference, blasting a shot that found the back of the net midway through the first half to give the Dragons an early lead.
The remainder of the match was a defensive battle. Both teams struggled to create clear chances, and neither side managed to score again. Sophomore goalkeeper Gennesis Morales recorded the clean sheet, anchoring a disciplined Collierville back line.
Head coach Gareth Munro emphasized clock management and defensive organization going into the contest, and his team delivered with a composed performance.
With the win, Collierville (13-0-1) advances to host the loser of the Region 7 Championship between Clarksville and Henry County on Saturday, while Houston (13-5-2) will travel to face the winner.
As the Dragons' team goal remains to advance and play in next week’s state tournament in Chattanooga, they hope to have several key players return from injury — and continue their push toward a state title. This team is known to compete and accept all challenges.
