COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — The Collierville High School football program is coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, finishing 11-2 and advancing to the third round of the TSSAA playoffs. Expectations remain high as the Dragons look to reload and make another deep postseason run in 2025.
Gone from last year’s squad are several key contributors, including standout quarterback Grant Troutman, now at Memphis, and Mr. Football Finalist, Samuel Iroh, who’s headed to East Tennessee State. Despite those departures, the Dragons return a strong core of veteran leadership and promising new talent.
Anchoring the defense is senior defensive end Marshall Smith, a Memphis commit, while the offensive line will once again be led by Cooper Sherrod, who’s committed to Army. A big boost to the backfield comes in the form of transfer running back Lawrence Autry, a Tulane commit, who adds speed and explosiveness to the offense.
Collierville made its preseason debut Friday night against defending Class 1A state champion MASE. While the matchup served as an early-season test, the Dragons showed flashes of their potential. One of the night’s highlights came on the fifth play of the opening series — a deep connection between quarterback Cayson Stanford and wide receiver Tae Walden that electrified the home crowd.
On the defensive side, senior defensive back Tristan Plumlee impressed with tight coverage and a key interception.
The team will continue its preseason slate with the annual Dragon Night festivities tonight, giving the Collierville community an introduction of what’s to come.
Collierville opens its regular season on Saturday, August 23rd, at home against East Nashville, with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m.
