Both the Collierville High School baseball and softball teams kicked off the District 15-AAAA Tournament in commanding fashion Thursday evening, each notching shutout victories to advance in their respective brackets.
Dragons Baseball blanked Arlington 7-0, powered by a dominant outing from Belmont University signee Ridge Harvey. The left-hander went five innings, allowing just one hit, issuing one walk, and striking out 10. Reece Denman came in to close the door, tossing two scoreless innings to seal the win.
At the plate, JD Whitworth and Harrison Snell each collected two hits, while AJ Green and Hayden Short drove in two runs apiece. With the win, Collierville improves to 30-7 and moves on to face Houston tonight at 7 p.m. in the winner’s bracket, with the game being played at Houston High School.
Dragons Softball was equally impressive, rolling past Southwind 16-0. Pitchers Blue Flanders and Kylie Mayfield combined for the shutout, while Melora Tarena and Natalie Givens sparked the offense by combining to score five runs. The victory lifts Collierville to 15-11-1 on the season.
The Dragons will now face Houston in the next round tonight at Bartlett, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
