New Albany, MS — Collierville High School sophomore sharpshooter Bailey Thornton had a career-best offensive performance Saturday afternoon, scoring 14 points in a nail-biting 47-46 victory over the Pontotoc Lady Warriors in the Robertson’s Sportswear Challenge in New Albany, Mississippi.
Every one of Thornton's points was critical in a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final moments. Junior guard Lilly Jennings continued her breakout season, contributing 12 points, while freshman Brooklyn Mayette, known for her three-point shooting, added 9 points. Sophomore center Ehi Aigbomian made her presence felt on the boards, grabbing 10 rebounds to help secure the win. Junior point guard Khy Khy Rodgers, always steady as the play-caller, had six assists and five steals.
With the victory, the Lady Dragons improved to 19-4 on the season and are now looking ahead to their next challenge. They will have the opportunity to reach the 20-win mark on Wednesday, January 22, when they travel to Arlington for a 6 p.m. tip-off against the Tigers.
