Collierville, Tenn. – Collierville Schools is pleased to announce that former Collierville High School Athletic Director Daron Schoenrock has accepted the role of Assistant District Athletic Director for the 2024-25 school year. In this new position, Schoenrock will oversee athletic facilities and public events for the school system, as well as coordinate summer programs and assist the district’s master plan for athletics.

"With the expansion of our program offerings at all levels and the need for oversight of our numerous athletic facilities, it became evident that we needed someone with Coach Schoenrock's experience and expertise for the job," stated Jeff Curtis, Collierville Schools’ District Athletic Director. "I am excited to continue working with him in this new role alongside our district’s Operations staff."

Schoenrock spent 39 years coaching college baseball prior to the 2023-24 school year, his first in secondary education. He began his career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Tennessee Tech, in 1985, where he managed a Division I pitching staff just a year after finishing his playing career. His coaching journey included stints at Murray State (1986-87) and Lincoln Memorial University (Head Coach 1988-89), leading to an eight-year tenure at Birmingham-Southern College (1990-97), a strong NAIA program where he gained national recognition as a promising pitching coach. He then spent seven years in the prestigious Southeastern Conference, with positions at Kentucky (1998-99) and Georgia (2000-01), where he helped the team win a Southeastern Conference Championship and reach the College World Series in 2001. He spent the 2002, 2003, and 2004 seasons at Mississippi State, overseeing a pitching staff that included future MLB stars Paul Maholm and Jonathan Papelbon.

In July 2004, he accepted the head coaching role at The University of Memphis, where he remained for 18 years, guiding the program back to regional play in 2007, achieving nine seasons with over 30 wins, and overseeing two major facility upgrades. After retiring from Memphis in 2022, Schoenrock rejoined the SEC as a pitching coach at Auburn University under current head coach Butch Thompson. It was a reunion with Thompson, a former player Schoenrock had coached at Birmingham-Southern. In 2023, he left Auburn to assume the Athletic Director position at Collierville High School. Throughout his long career, Schoenrock has coached over 120 players who have moved on to play professional baseball.

Schoenrock and his wife, Carol, have two sons. Erik, who graduated from Collierville High School in 2010, pitched both collegiately at Memphis and professionally with the San Diego Padres organization. Bret, meanwhile, was a two-sport athlete at Rossville Christian Academy and is now an assistant coach for both the men’s basketball and baseball teams at Collierville High School.
