After an early season injury that had led the Elon University signee from getting the ball for the Dragons in April, the two-sport athlete got his chance on a beautiful day at Patriot Bank Park on Saturday (April 22) versus Lexington (TN).
Johns was already in post-season form as the left-hander threw three scoreless innings, 44 pitches, in a pre-determined limited pitch count to ease back into rhythm. Just as impressive was sophomore left-hander Ridge Harvey, who struck out all three batters faced. The Dragons go-to-guy out of the bullpen, Keaton Baird, stayed fresh with an inning's work to complete the trio's combined no-hitter.
Offensively, Collierville scored in all four innings they were at the plate. The game was shortened because of the 10-run rule. The Dragons got off to a bang with four runs in the first inning. They would add a pair of runs in the 2nd inning, put the game out of reach in the 3rd inning with a 7-run frame, and add another pair in the 4th inning. Twenty players got at-bats. Thomas Crabtree and Cael Allen each had two hits. Crabtree, and AJ Greene, contributed two RBIs to lead the team's offensive attack.
Collierville (26-4) will host Bartlett on Monday night. It's Pack the Park and Collierville Education Night at Patriot Bank Park. First pitch between the Dragons and Panthers is slated for 6:30pm.
Collierville Schools employees and their families are admitted free to all regular season athletic contests.
