East Tennessee State commit Thomas Crabtree struck out seven, allowed just one hit, in 5.1 innings of work to pick up the win for Collierville baseball at Houston on Monday (May 9). Junior closer Keaton Baird earned the save finishing the final 1.2 innings of the 3-1 victory over the Mustangs. Cade Leatherwood was 3-for-4 to lead the Dragons offense. Grant Ross and Austin Smith were both 2-for-3.
In the first year of the Class AAAA realignment, District 15 is arguably the best in the state. Five teams in the district have state championships on their resume and 1 (Germantown High School) a national championship. With the win, the Dragons punch an automatic ticket to the Region Tournament. Two teams advance from the district.
Collierville (32-9) will have an opportunity to earn win number 33 in 2022 on Wednesday. They will play the losers bracket winner (Bartlett or Houston). Game 1, Wednesday, is scheduled for 4:30pm with an if necessary game to follow at 7pm.
