Fifteen hits, heads up base running, elite pitching, and fierce defense led the Collierville High School baseball team to their 29th victory with a 9-1 win at Briarcrest Christian on Monday (May 2). Ole Miss signee, Grayson Saunier, was the starting pitcher and delivered six innings with command of all four pitches to earn the win for the Dragons. Saunier allowed five hits and struck out six.

Scotty Wyatt had a perfect three-out seventh inning and completed the game.

The base running tactics for the Diamond Dragons may have been the most vital aspect of the game. In particular, Tyler Hedin had an outstanding read with a ball in the dirt, scored, and the Dragons never looked back from there. Hedin had two runs scored. Thomas Crabtree had three stolen bases.

Grant Ross went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to pace the offense. Cade Leatherwood was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. JD Whitworth had two hits.

Collierville (29-9) will begin district tournament play on Friday. The Dragons are set to host Southwind in an elimination game. First pitch TBA.
