Collierville High School senior right-hander, Grayson Saunier, was at a different level on Tuesday night in a high level baseball game between the Dragons and visiting Houston High School. The Mustangs came into the game as the No. 1 ranked team by the state's coaches association poll. The Dragons entered at No. 5.

The game was not a disappointment for the nearly 1,000 fans in attendance. Free baseball was played after a 0-0 tie at the end of seven innings. The 8th inning had excitement, and drama, but Collierville prevailed with a 1-0 victory in the bottom half. Senior shortstop Cade Leatherwood led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Freshman speedster J.D. Whitworth would pinch run and advanced to third on a ground rule double by senior 1st baseman Grant Ross. Whitworth would score on the next pitch that was thrown wild to senior catcher Christian Dunn and got passed the opposing catcher.

Saunier, an Ole Miss signee, will likely have a decision to either attend college or choose the professional route after this July's Major League Baseball draft. The flame thrower was on an eighty pitch count and exited after 5.1 innings of work. He gave up just one hit, walked one, and struck out seven. His curveball was one that you see on video games.

East Tennessee State commit Thomas Crabtree would relieve and finish the game by allowing just one hit and striking out five.

The two teams will be back in action Wednesday at Houston's Bill Avant Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm. The regular season district title is at stake.
