In consecutive nights, the Collierville High School men's and women's basketball teams swept their respective opponent on the hardwood. Monday the brooms were at Arlington and Tuesday the teams did their work to defeat Houston inside the school's My Town Movers Fieldhouse. The state's best student section was there to assist. The ladies had little trouble en route to a 59-40 victory and the men won a thriller 49-47.
Collierville Lady Dragons (18-7) were led by senior combo guard Kristyna Boyd with 12 points. Freshman Paige Whitted added 11 points. It was a complete team effort with high level offense and tenacious defense by the Lady Dragons. With the win, Collierville secures the three seed in the District 15 AAAA girls tournament. The team will host Southwind on Thursday, 6pm, in the quarterfinal match-up.
T.J. McNeal had 16 points to lead the way in an epic battle between the Dragons and Mustangs in the men's finale. Alec Tipton added 12 points and Alex Vandenbergh contributed 11 points. Collierville (17-7) will play Cordova in the District 15 AAAA boys' tournament Thursday night. Time and location TBA.
The sweep was the 7th this season for Collierville Basketball.
