Collierville Schools honored the 1971 TSSAA State Runner-Up football team which stands as the highest finish of any Dragon team in the modern playoffs. The squad finished their season with a remarkable 11-1 record. Head Coach Bob Yancey attended Friday night's playoff game with his wife Janet. Collierville ran the table, before falling to Sweetwater in the Class A State Championship. The Dragons posted three shutouts and allowed just 8.4 points per game. Coach Yancey led Collierville to the TSSAA State Playoffs twice during his six years at CHS. Joining Coach Yancey at the game were team members Henry Albright, Charles Cozzens, Bob Humphreys, the brother of the late John Humphreys, Ricky Jeans, Ronnie Johnson, Danny McPeake, Dennis Rutledge, Russell Rutledge, Steve Simpson, Joey Skelton and Greg Tull. This group of Dragons were a huge part of the foundation of excellence that has helped to build the Ville.
