The Collierville High School football team opened the 2021 season with a 61-0 victory over Raleigh Egypt on Friday night (Aug. 20) at Dragon Stadium behind 279 yards of total offense.

With the win, the Dragons'(1-0) tradition of ringing the bell after a victory has begun.

The Dragons featured more of a rushing attack on the offensive side with 186 yards on the ground and 93 yards in the air. Junior running back Andy Bell led the backfield with 61 yards rushing and a touchdown. Senior quarterback Houston Wilhelm completed six of eight passes for 93 yards that included touchdown passes to John Hampton and Noah Flaskamp. Wilhelm also had a rushing touchdown.

Collierville's defense will obviously be a force in 2021 as the Dragons had their best performance in the team's history by not allowing a first down, not allowing a completed pass, and the Pharaohs had negative 11 rushing yards. The Dragons scored twice on defense on a Donovan Mathena 6-yard fumble recovery touchdown and a Myles Wesley 25-yard interception return for a score.

It is anticipated to be a lot of fun on Friday night's in Collierville this year. The community came out in full force with a packed home side in attendance. Look for another round of fun and an exciting brand of football, next Friday night, when the Collierville Dragons take on the Douglass Red Devils at 7pm August 27th.
