The final day of Rivals Week took place at Patriot Bank Park Saturday (April 10) and ended with the Dragons sweeping Houston and Germantown. Collierville went 3-1 in the annual series, losing the first game at Houston (4-3) on Thursday. The Diamond Dragons defeated Germantown, Friday (18-0), Houston (2-1) Saturday, and the Red Devils again Saturday (17-2).
Saturday's game versus the Mustangs had a state tournament feel. Collierville ace, Grayson Saunier, held Houston to five hits and one run over six innings with nine strikeouts. The Ole Miss commit also did not walk a batter. Luke Whaley recorded the save throwing a scoreless 7th inning with 2 punch outs. The Dragons fell behind early 1-0 in the first, but Seth Brown delivered a RBI in the bottom half to even the score 1-1.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the 5th when Grant Ross sliced a single to score the speedy Austin Smith.
With the sweep, Collierville improves to 17-4 and claims the District 15-AAA regular season title.
