The Collierville football team saw its bid for a Region 7-6A Football Championship come up just short in a 34-28 loss to Bartlett Friday night at Panther Stadium.

The Dragons (5-3) had a late scoring drive in the 4th quarter that set up a chance to go for two and the win, but a false start forced Collierville to kick a field goal. Hudson Hollenbeck's PAT was good and the game went into overtime. Bartlett was able to capitalize in OT and secured the victory and region title.

It was obvious from the get go that the game would come down to the wire after a back-and-forth affair. Collierville got first half touchdown runs by Troy Martin from 3 and 11 yards out. Harrison Craig had an interception that he returned for a touchdown and Dylan Powell added a powerful 2nd half rushing touchdown for the Dragon scores.

Bartlett's game plan was no secret and to feed the ball to star running back Robert Giaimo and the senior did not disappoint. Giaimo rushed for 247 yards on 29 carries with scores from 6, 1 and 61. He also scored a pair of two-point conversions.

The winning play for the Panthers in OT was a fake hand off to Giaimo and quarterback Walt Tucker dumping a 10-yard pass to Justin Jefferson.

Collierville will be back in action in the TSSAA playoffs on November 13. The Dragons will host the Arlington Tigers for an opportunity to advance to the state quarter-finals on November 20. It's possible the Dragons could return to Bartlett for a rematch against the Panthers.
