Collierville Head Football Coach, Joe Rocconi, had an opportunity to rally his troops and travel 3.5 hours to Gallatin for a Friday night matchup after being idle for the past three weeks. Due to restrictions associated with COVID-19, the Dragons had not played a game since the season opener versus Briarcrest Christian on August 21. Rocconi checked with his seniors and the team accepted the challenge without hesitation.

Although having just four days of practice, the Dragons began the contest with fire. Junior Quarterback, Ethan Pettigrew found tight end Brayden Hendricks early in the 1st quarter to give Collierville a 7-0 lead. The Green Wave answered in the 2nd Quarter with a score, but a blocked PAT still gave the Dragons a 7-6 lead. Hudson Hollenbeck later connected from 42-yards out and Collierville led at the half 10-6.

Gallatin's explosiveness was visible late in the 3rd quarter when quarterback Mason Stanley found Dee Sullivan for a 73-yard strike to give the Green Wave a 13-10 lead. The Dragons regained the lead early in the 4th quarter, 17-13, on a rushing touchdown by Troy Martin. With 6:32 left to play the Green Wave responded with their own score, but the special teams unit once again blocked the PAT to give Collierville a chance for heroics down 19-17.

The hero was Hollenbeck who drilled a 40-yarder that split the uprights with just :57 seconds remaining and a Collierville lead 20-19. The Dragons defense that swarmed all night finished the business and secured the victory.

Senior Dylan Powell had 18 carries for 149 yards on a career night. Classmate Scottie Alexander had 6 catches for 99 yards.

Collierville (1-1) will host Evangelical Christian, next Friday, 7pm at Dragon Stadium at Landers SportsPlex.
