Shelby County Swim League | 10/25/2019

The Collierville Dragons men’s and women’s swimming had their season opener last night at St. Georges Independent School. The competition was a sprint meet format and all league teams were invited. With a total of 15 teams participating, the Dragons came in 3rd on the men’s side, 2nd on the women’s rank, and a combine 2nd place only behind Memphis Homeschool (MHEA).
We started the night with the 200 medley relay, the girls came in 2nd with Erin Milligan, Jana Chao, Emma Hurdle and Elle Recor. Same result for the boys with Liam Anders, Dylan Cline, Jordan Norris and Will Cozart. On the relay lead-off, Erin Milligan broke the school record on the 50 Back with a 29.04.
The 100 IM was the first individual event. Senior Milligan who committed to Arizona State Sun Devils last week took home a 2nd place with 1:02.48. On the men’s side Joran Norris finished 3rd. Dylan Cline took 3rd place on the next event, the 50 free, with a state cut time of 23.81.
This meet format also included sprint relays which each individual swimmer raced 25 yards, and the Dragons were able to add important points on those relays. The guys took 1st place on the 100 free relay (Noah Harbin, Joseph Eberle, Ben Johnson, Martin Maxim) and 2nd on the 100 medley relay (Joseph Eberle, Ben Simcoe, Aidan Stanford, Gabriel Stark). The girls had a 3rd place finish on the 100 medley relay (Marissa Christensen, Emily Sun, Susan Gonzalez, Haylee Haynes).
Back to the individual events, Erin Milligan won the 100 free with a impressive 54.51 leaving the competition more than a full second behind her. Jordan Norris also took home a 1st place on the 50 back with a personal best of 26.05.
The last event of the night was the 200 free relay. The girls race was hands down the most exciting event of the night. The Collierville team composed by Elle Recor (26.3), Jana Chao (26.7), Emma Hurdle (26.4) and Erin Milligan (24.4) out touched the MHEA team on the last stroke by a 0:00.03 difference.
Coach Gui Passos said “It was great to see them race for the first time. Individually we swam pretty well and we saw some big time drops. In the next few weeks we will make adjustments as a team aiming to come out on top on our next league meet.”
The Dragons have their next meet November 5th, 5:30pm at St Georges.
