MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The West Collierville Middle School baseball team is headed to the TMSAA State Championships after holding off a late surge from Arlington in a nail-biting 5–4 victory Thursday night during the Sectional Championship.

The Dragons controlled the game from the outset, building a commanding 5–0 lead through five innings. Cameron MacDougall was dominant on the mound, tossing five innings of two-hit baseball while striking out five to earn the win.

But things got interesting in the bottom of the sixth. Arlington clawed back with three runs to narrow the gap and threatened again in the seventh. After West Collierville’s offense couldn’t add insurance in the top of the inning, Arlington plated another run to make it 5–4. With the bases loaded and the crowd on edge, closer Brady Sumner slammed the door shut, striking out the final batter to preserve the win.

Sumner was electric, showcasing next-level potential with a blazing fastball that stymied Arlington hitters. He earned the four-out save, fanning three in his outing.

Offensively, Luke Saltsman led the charge for West Collierville, going 2-for-3 at the plate and sparking the Dragons’ scoring efforts.

With the win, the Dragons advance to the TMSAA State Final Four, set to begin next Thursday in Clarksville. Their first game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Kirkwood High School.
