Kylee Lapham, Mary Addisyn Stubbs, Abbi Peterson, and Jenny Holtman have been part of a Collierville program that has reached the final four of the state tournament the previous two years. And, for their senior year they will play in the state championship match.

Jump around, Collierville.

This special Dragons volleyball team took down state rival Brentwood in a dramatic five sets: 27-25, 15-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12 - in the TSSAA state tournament semifinal match Thursday night at Rockvale High School.

Collierville defeated Brentwood for the third time in 2022 and notched consecutive wins over the Bruins in consecutive days. Brentwood defeated Houston, 3-0, and Hillsboro, 3-0, earlier in the day. Collierville had fallen to Cleveland, 3-0, and had to get past Brentwood to earn a rematch with Cleveland in the state championship game Friday. They needed it. They did it.

Set one went past the 25-point threshold as the Dragons prevailed, 27-25, that was back-and-forth each point.

Brentwood controlled set two from the get-go and had a decisive 25-15 win.

The Dragons had a come-from-behind victory in set 3, winning 25-21, but the Bruins stopped another rally by Collierville in set four to claim that set, 25-20.

It was set five that would determine who would advance and play for a state championship. Collierville (37-9) gained control midway through the match and kept the foot on the pedal. They finished the Bruins, 15-12, for the opportunity to play in the last game of the volleyball season.

That last game, the state championship, will be played 4pm Friday at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro.
